The university ice-hockey match of the century – Tomas Bata University in Zlín versus Brno University of Technology – will take place at “Luděk Čajka” Ice-Hockey Stadium in Zlín at 19:00 on 7 December 2010.

This year again TBU has, in cooperation with the Student Union, organized the pre-Christmas event entitled 'Christmas Tree Illumination', to take place in front of the U2 building (FaME) in Mostní Street from 16:30 to 17:30 on 7 December 2010. The programme features, among others, the arrival of St. Nicholas and his helpers and a performance to be given by the rock choir named “Holy Regiment”; refreshments will be available for everyone. Fairy-tale movies will be projected starting from 18:00. At 21:00 the traditional Christmas party entitled “Afterstrom” will start in the “Metro” club.

The “Beer Spiral” competition will start in the Golem Club in Zlín between 17:00 and 18:00 (registration), on Tuesday, 23 November 2010. For the first time ever, individuals will be allowed to participate, however, under different rules.

The MIXER Multimedia Festival, traditionally organized by the FMC students, will take place between 17 and 20 November 2010. The festival programme includes interesting workshops, seminars, films as well as the announcement of the outcome of the visual arts competition involving four categories: Video and new media, photographs, graphics and design.

For the fourth time already, the Student Union supported by Tomas Bata University has organized commemoration events to be held on the occasion of the anniversary of 17 November (Struggle for Freedom and Democracy Day) on Monday, 15 November 2010. The first event will be the traditional “Staircase Run”, to start in the FAI building at Jižní Svahy (U5) at 15:00. The official time off for students begins at 16:30. At 17:00, a speech will be given by Ms Anna Zapletalová, the President of the Student Union, followed by a commemoration procession starting in the náměstí Míru Square and ending in front of the University Centre building. Each attendee will be given a candle as a symbol of this anniversary.

From 2 November to 5 November 2010 the Student Affairs Department at FaME will be closed to full-time students due to the “Gaudeamus” European Education and Lifelong Learning Fair to be held in Brno.

Starting from 11 October 2010 the OLIVER University League will start in all university towns – i.e. also at TBU in Zlín! The League includes the following sports:

On Friday, 17 September 2010, the TBU Faculty of Management and Economics will celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of its establishment. Prof. Dr. Ing. Drahomíra Pavelková, the FaME Dean, and Doc. RNDr. Vojtěch Křesálek, CSc., Vice-Rector authorized to fully act on behalf of TBU in Zlín, will deliver their addresses at the gathering of students and staff, to take place at 10:00 in the Assembly Hall (Academia Centre, Mostní Street). Awards for their work will be given to outstanding staff members of the Faculty. The celebrations will also involve a meeting of FaME graduates, to start at 16:00.

The third edition of the Researchers’ Night 2010 at TBU will be held in the U5 building (Jižní Svahy) starting from 16:00 on 24 September 2010. The programme will, just like last year, consist of three main parts: Scientific - popular lectures, interesting practical experiments and entertaining artistic performances.

The Faculty of Management and Economics implements a joint Bachelor’s programme in cooperation with the Huddersfield University Business School in Great Britain. After completing the first two years at TBU in Zlín, TBU students have an opportunity to and complete the studies at HUBS in Great Britain.

After an update done in June 2010, the scientific journal ‘Journal of Competitiveness’ (www.cjournal.cz) published by FaME has been placed on the List of Reviewed Periodicals without Impact Factor Published in the Czech Republic. The journal offers results of basic and applied economic research presented by national and international authors in the Czech and English languages. The closing date for the next issue will be 30 September 2010. The first issue was published in June 2010 – please refer to http://www.cjournal.cz.

The FaME Student Affairs Department will be closed between 26 July and 6 August 2010 due to holiday. Thank you for your understanding.

Dear students,
we would like to inform you that the student computer room will be closed between 28 June 2010 and 12 September 2010, i.e. during the summer holiday. Thank you for your understanding.

The organizers of the “TeX double conference” (ConTeXt Meeting and TeXperience 2010 Conference) are pleased to announce that the TBU Faculty of Management and Economics as the official co-organizer has been informed by PhDr. Miroslava Kopcová, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic, that the Ministry will support the Conference, i.e. the event will be held under the auspices of the Ministry.

For the first time ever, a music and dance party featuring electronic music and d’n’b will be held during the film festival. The party will focus on the famous “VHS cassettes”, which once conquered the world and considerably influenced the whole society. The event will host the following performances: ELECTRONIC BITCHES, KATCHA (one of the best Drum’n’Bass DJ’s in our country), X.MORPH and UFO UNIVERSA ROCKER.

Mr Christopher Lee, one of the world’s leading actors, will visit Zlín during the film festival. He performed roles in more than 250 movies, e.g.: Lord of the Rings (Saruman), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Willy Wonka’s father), Star Wars (Count Dooku), Dracula, Sleepy Hollow, etc. You will have a chance to meet him in the Otto Wichterle Hall (U2 building) at 15:30 on Monday, 31 May 2010.

A lecture by Prof. Jan Švejnar, entitled "How to Intelligently Reform Public Finances", will be held in the Assembly Hall (U2 building) at 10:00 on Monday, 24 May 2010.

The TBU Student Union has organized an enjoyable afternoon (not only) for TBU students, to take place in the park near František Bartoš Regional Library on Tuesday, 11 May 2010. The event entitled “Student Union in the Park” is scheduled to start at 15:00 and will last until 20:00. The programme includes various sports and games such as pétanque, ludo, marbles, jumping in bags, frisbees, etc. The entry is free for everybody!

Indonesian traditional dances, songs and folk costumes will be presented in the University Centre building (U13) on Friday, 7 May 2010. Students of the Universitas Pembangunan Nasional in Yogyakarta will give their performance at 10:00.

Václav Klaus, President of the Czech Republic, appointed 68 new university professors in the Prague Carolinum on Friday, 30 April 2010. One of them was the Dean of the Faculty of Management and Economics, Prof. Dr. Ing. Drahomíra Pavelková.
CONGRATULATIONS!

In connection with the Rag Day, to take place on 4 May 2010, an official time off starting at 11:00 has been announced. At the time announced, no classes will be held at the TBU faculties in Zlin and the examination sessions and tutorial hours of academic staff shall be cancelled.

The Rector’s Sports Day will take place on 6 May 2010.
Students have to register on the website www.utb.cz (FaME) between 12:00 on 22 April 2010 and 20:00 on 3 May 2010. Course-unit credits in sports activities will be given after the termination of the Rector’s Sports Day. Points will be awarded for participation and victory in the individual sports.

The plenary session within the conference “Responsible Innovations-Bata’s Legacy to Europe“ will be held in the Assembly Hall (Academia Centre of TBU in Zlín) between 13:00 and 15:30 on 22 April 2010.

The final night of MISS ACADEMIA will take place in the Municipal Theatre in Zlín on 31 March 2010. The event will be transmitted live through the website of NEON TV (University TV channel), just like last year.

The tickets for the final gala night will be on sale as follows:
11:00 -13:00 on Tuesday, 23 March 2010 in the FAME building
14:00 -16:00 on Tuesday, 23 March 2010 in the U13 building
14:00 -16:00 on Wednesday, 24 March 2010 in the U13 building

The fourteenth edition of the “Anti” Ball, organized by the TBU Student Union, will be held in the Golem and Flip clubs on Tuesday, 23 March 2010. The event will start at 20:00, the entrance fee for participants with a mask is CZK 20, for those without a mask it is CZK 40. In the Golem club the bands Neo Chess Sunny and Tatroska will be on stage, visitors to the Flip club will enjoy oldies. At midnight the winners of the competition for the best fancy dress outfit will be announced in both clubs.

The remaining (standing and seating) tickets for the TBU Gala Ball will be on sale in the TBU Refectory (U4) between 11:00 and 15:00 on Monday, 15 March 2010. The seating ticket price includes a bottle of sparkling wine, etc. The standing ticket price is CZK 300 (full-time students), CZK 350 (others); the seating ticket price is CZK 400 (full-time students), CZK 450 (others).

FUTURE OF THE FINANCIAL SECTOR AFTER THE CRISIS
You will learn plenty of up-to-date information on the world of finance, you will have the chance to discuss the impact of crisis on the financial sector and a number of other interesting topics. The meeting with Ing. Mojmír Hampl, Ph.D., the Vice-Governor of the Czech National Bank, will take place in the Otto Wichterle Hall (U2 building) between 12:00 and 14:00 on 19 April 2010.

The tickets will be on sale on Thursday, 4 March 2010.You can collect them in the U44 building (former seat of the TBU Library) at the Faculty of Multimedia Communications, on the ground floor in the conference room No. 109 between 10:00 and 15:00. Please bring your ID card or university chip card with you. Full-time students must present all student cards that have been entered into the system and are used to receive a price reduction for students. Without presenting the cards no reduction in price is possible.

The organizers of the “MISS ACADEMIA of the Czech Republic 2010” beauty contest will give a big party, to be held in Musicland at 22:00 on 23 February 2010 and featuring the start of the public on-line voting - MISS ACADEMIA ON-LINE 2010. Those attending the party can look forward to a lot of good music by DJ Prudík, to the countdown to start the voting at midnight, and, last but not least, to an interesting competition offering prizes sponsored by the “Vitar” company.

The tickets can be reserved on the website www.ples.utb.cz; for TBU employees from 14:00 on Monday, 22 February 2010, for TBU students and graduates from 14:00 on Tuesday, 23 February 2010. Next week, on Tuesday, 2 March and on Wednesday, 3 March 2010 those who have made a reservation can collect their tickets in the building of the Faculty of Multimedia Communications.

The casting to select models and hostesses for the 10th Gala Ball of Tomas Bata University in Zlín will be held in the University Centre (U13), room 540, at 14:00 on Tuesday, 23 February 2010. The University Ball will take place in the “Moskva” hotel on 19 March 2010 and host fashion show featuring underwear and dresses designed by the employees of the TBU Faculty of Multimedia Communications. There is no need to wear ball dress for those who want to participate in the casting; a T-shirt, jeans, a swimsuit, high-heeled shoes and a picture of the participant (for identification purposes) are sufficient. The TBU Gala Ball is always a highlight of the university life in Zlín.

We would like to inform you about the newly established ”Journal of Competitiveness” published by the Faculty of Management and Economics since December 2009 and focusing on competitiveness and related topics. The journal is available on the website: www.cjournal.cz

Within the financial support, internal grants are to be awarded to support student projects. The projects’ implementation period is 1 to 3 years. Grants are intended for funding of R&D and creative projects. The head researcher is a student in a Doctoral degree programme or an academic employee.
