The Department of Regional Development, Public Sector Administration and Law is a pedagogical and scientific-research institute of the Faculty of Management and Economics (FaME). It fulfils three basic functions. The first is the conceptual elaboration and professional guaranteeing of tuition in Bachelor’s and Master’s degree courses aimed at public sector administration and regional development. At the same time, the Department cooperates with other Departments of FaME that also participate in the tuition of these disciplines. It coordinates their tuition activities and is responsible for overall organization. The second key role of the Department of Regional Development, Public Sector Administration and Law is the special attention it devotes to the development and tuition of the specific disciplines relevant to the tuition of Regional Development, Public Sector Administration and Law. It this direction, the Department focuses on Socio-economic and Administrative Geography, Regional Structures, Regional Analysis, Regional Policy as well as other Region-oriented disciplines; further, Administration Economics, The Basics of Law, Statecraft, and other public law disciplines. The Department places great emphasis and devotes a lot of its attention to the Regional, Legislative, and Legal Structures of the EU, to legislative questions in general, and to issues involving reform to Public Sector Administration and Regional Development. The Department of Regional Development, Public Sector Administration and Law equally shares in the tuition offered within the framework of the Lifelong Learning programme.
The third key role of the Department involves research studies in State and Regional Administrative Sciences, with special emphasis placed on the prognosis of current and future influences of EU integration on the regional and state sectors’ structures here in the Czech Republic; comparison of public sector administration - especially those of the Central European countries; and the territorial, legal and institutional aspects of proposed and actual reforms to public sector administrations. The Department of Regional Development, Public Sector Administration and Law maintains close contacts with other institutions involved in this specialized form of teaching at universities from the Czech Republic and beyond, exploiting and implementing lessons drawn from their experiences into its own tuition provision. The Department has extensive collaborative ventures and cooperates with entities and institutions of the City of Zlín and the Zlín Region’s Regional Administration. The employees of the Department of Regional Development, Public Sector Administration and Law have all been on a range of field trips and sabbaticals abroad, and have also actively participated in international conferences organized on their specialist disciplines and domain.
